Recently, I was given the opportunity to write an article for insider.com sharing my top 10 favorite things I see at weddings! As someone who has worked in the industry since 2015, I have seen a lot of weddings! Below are my favorite things that couples include at their weddings.

  1. Private meal for the couple before the reception - this typically is scheduled for during cocktail hour and is a great opportunity for the couple to have alone time together to soak in everything before entering into the reception!

  2. Private last dance- similar to a private meal, this is another scheduled opportunity in the day for the bride and groom to have a moment alone. The couple stays inside for one last dance while guests line up outside!

  3. Parent toast during the wedding ceremony - I saw this recently as a wedding and loved it. The bride’s father gave a speech during the ceremony and it was great to be able to hear the toast, instead of during the reception when there is a lot going on.

  4. Faux wedding cakes - most wedding cake nowadays is fake! Faux cakes allow you to have the design you want while not having to worry about serving amounts.

  5. Voicemail Guest Book - I have seen this pop up on social media recently and everyone has been loving it. There are companies that set up a rotary phone with a voice message box at your wedding for guests to call in and leave a message instead of signing a guest book.

  6. Assigning a designated documenter - give your phone to either a trusted guest or family member to take photos and videos of everything throughout the day! This will hold you over until you get the professional photos back from the photographer.

  7. Numbering the back of RSVP cards - always number the back of your rsvp cards so you know who responds in the case that they do not write them name on the card, or if their writing is illegible.

  8. Duffel Bag bridesmaids gifts - instead of gifting bridesmaids with trinkets or getting ready outfits, gift them with a personalized duffel bag that allows them to easily transport their items between locations on their wedding day.

  9. Reception Room Reveal - if there is time during the cocktail hour, schedule a time with your photographer to do a reception room reveal. It is hard to see all the flowers/decor when all your guests are in the room, so schedule a time to look at it all before your guests enter the reception!

  10. Parents sitting on the opposite side during the ceremony - this has become a pretty popular one recently thanks to tik tok. Most parents are opting to sit on the opposite side of their child so that they can see their faces during the ceremony instead of the backs of their head!
